Humetrix Demos Medicare Blue Button FHIR Code-a-thon-Winning Technology at Health Datapalooza

Dr. Bettina Experton to Participate CMS BlueButton on FHIR in Action Session

Del Mar, Calif., May 5, 2016 - Humetrix represented by Vishu Ghanakota and Chris Burrow, will demonstrate its FHIR enabled mobile technology, which was named one of three winners at last month’s “Medicare Blue Button on FHIR” code-a-thon, at Health Datapalooza, May 9-11, in Washington, DC. Highlighting the company’s leadership role in the HIT industry and the Blue Button initiative, Humetrix’s CEO, Dr. Bettina Experton, will also present during the “CMS Blue Button on FHIR in Action” session on May 9 at 4:20 pm. The Humetrix demo will take place during the same session.

Humetrix has pioneered the use of Medicare Blue Button data with its HHS award winning iBlueButton. The app allows Medicare beneficiaries, Veterans, TRICARE enrollees and other Americans to have their health records available at all times on their mobile devices so they can easily view, annotate and share them. The use of HL7 Fast Health Interoperability Resource (FHIR) standards with Medicare Blue Button data will provide developers a new standardized means to access this data and develop applications for Medicare beneficiaries to use. Humetrix’s FHIR enabled technology will demonstrate the use of Medicare Blue Button data with on-board algorithms, to give patients better insight into their medical conditions and treatments, making them active participants in their healthcare.

“While FHIR shows great promise, getting the whole industry to move to a new standard will take time. Meanwhile, we should emphasize that existing standards and EHR infrastructure allow millions of Americans to access their health records and Blue Button data to receive safer and more cost-effective healthcare,” said Dr. Bettina Experton, CEO of Humetrix. “It was gratifying to see so many entrants in the Medicare Blue Button on FHIR code-a-thon – and we are thrilled that our technology was chosen among the winners. We look forward to participating and supporting government and industry efforts to advance interoperability standards with FHIR and helping to lay out the possibilities for patients.”

On Monday, May 9, 4:20 – 5:40 pm Dr. Experton will participate in the Mini Summit III - “CMS Blue Button on FHIR in Action.” She joins government officials and patient-facing organizations to lay out the vision for Blue Button on FHIR and the possibilities for patients. The session will be one of the first times that the public will see and hear and see the various ways Medicare beneficiaries will be able to use their own data on the FHIR framework, and will feature demos of the FHIR code-a-thon winning solutions, including Humetrix’s technology.
